Evo Renewables were commissioned to design and install a bespoke 20kW solar PV system for a working poultry farm in Mid Wales. Unlike a standard commercial installation, this project required a highly tailored approach due to the site’s reliance on continuous power to maintain safe environmental conditions for livestock.

The poultry facility depends on roof-mounted ventilation systems operating at all times. In the event of a power outage, air quality within the building could deteriorate rapidly, placing livestock at serious risk. This made system reliability, safety, and seamless integration with existing infrastructure absolutely critical.

In addition to the operational demands, the property utilised a non-standard polyphase electrical supply, operating across two phases rather than a conventional setup. The site was also supported by a backup generator connected via an automatic transfer switch, introducing further complexity and requiring precise system design to prevent backfeed and ensure safe operation at all times.

Evo Renewables delivered a fully customised solution, installing a dual inverter SolarEdge system to align with the site’s electrical configuration. The solar array was designed using an east-west layout, allowing for more consistent energy generation throughout the day, rather than a single peak output period.

Careful integration with the existing generator and automatic transfer switch ensured the system operates safely during both normal and backup power conditions. This level of detail in the design and installation process provided the client with a solution that not only improves energy efficiency but also safeguards the continuous operation of critical systems.

The completed installation now provides the poultry farm with reliable on-site energy generation, reduced electricity costs, and increased energy independence, all while maintaining the highest level of operational safety.
