Evo Renewables were appointed to design, install, and commission a 50kW commercial battery system at Zip World Tower in North Wales. The project involved integrating a GivEnergy battery system with an existing SolarEdge PV array distributed across multiple buildings, within a fully off-grid, generator-powered environment.

Unlike standard installations, the site operates entirely independently from the national grid, meaning all energy generation, storage, and distribution must be carefully managed to ensure consistent and reliable power across the facility.

One of the key challenges was the layout of the existing solar infrastructure. The PV system was spread across multiple buildings, with individual inverter circuits supplying different areas of the site. In order for the battery system to function effectively, Evo Renewables re-engineered the system, consolidating and re-routing solar circuits to create a centralised point of integration.

This required extensive coordination across multiple buildings, including the reconfiguration of AC circuits and careful cable routing, all while maintaining system integrity and compliance.

Additional complexity was introduced by the generator-based power supply. As the site operates entirely off-grid, it was essential to ensure stable interaction between solar generation, battery storage, and generator supply. A new automatic transfer switch was installed, providing a dedicated supply to the battery system and enabling controlled switching between power sources.

Through detailed system design and precise commissioning, Evo Renewables delivered a fully integrated energy solution capable of intelligently managing generation, storage, and demand across the entire site.
